MONDAY 2 JULY : 12h00 - 16h00 Durban Orientation Tour

Drive the "Golden Mile" with its golden beaches, curio sellers, rickshaw pullers and hotels, to the harbour entrance, where a stop is made for photos and a walk about for guests to find out more about the origins of Durban. Pass the sugar terminal towards the University of Natal campus where a panoramic view of Durban can be appreciated. Refreshments will be enjoyed at Umhlanga Rocks beach front hotel overlooking the ocean followed by an optional beach walk.

TUESDAY 3 JULY: 10h00 - 16h00 Midlands Meander & Battlefields (arts, crafts and education)

Depart Durban and drive through Pietermaritzburg to the beautiful Natal Midlands, known for it's magnificent dairy and stud farms. Enjoy lunch and refreshments at Fort Nottingham after a riveting discussion at the old war museum with the resident historian. Return to Durban via the Midlands Meander, making stops en route at various art and craft shops.

21/2 hour drive northwards through the sugar and timber plantations of Zululand, take this tour to Hluhluwe - Umfolozi Game Reserve. Spend the day in the park in open top game viewing vehicles in search of "The Big 5"- leopard, rhino, buffalo, lion and elephant. This game reserve is famous for its large numbers of both black and white rhinos. Enjoy lunch at Hilltop Camp in this reserve, one of the oldest in South Africa.

Drive to the majestic Drakensberg Mountains and retrace the steps of the Bushman people to a cave overlooking the green valleys below and view the artwork of these fascinating people. Guests will be guided through the cave by a guide who will interpret the paintings and the way of the life of the Bushman people. After a picnic lunch on the banks of the Bushmans River, return to Durban through the Natal Midlands.

This tour entails a visit to a local Zulu community living on the outskirts of the City of Durban. Descent is made into the beautiful Valley of 1000 Hills where rural Africa links arms gently with urban living. The hospitality of these local people is renowned and guests will be escorted through the local village where they can meet with the crafters at work (beading and basketware) and take a walk along the banks of the Umgeni River whilst listening to tales of Zulu courtship.
